When you view a control that has not been assigned a scope, you might notice that there is a field on the Details tab called SCOPE.
The purpose of the field is to give users who are working with a simple control a way to assign it to a team without getting into the more complex aspects of the scopes feature. If you use the scopes feature, a control can have multiple scopes selected, dimensions defined through custom fields and the data rolls up to the main control. Selecting a scope in the SCOPE drop-down lets you filter for controls assigned to that scope.
If you add a scope to the control using the Scope assignments feature, Hyperproof replaces the scope you selected from the SCOPE field on the control details tab with the scope assignments you made.
